Pawan Kalyan slams Telugu film industry of THIS reason

In what could possibly be described as a bizarre development, actor and Andhra Pradesh deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is upset with the Telugu film industry. The Office of the Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh released a letter (in Telugu) that chronicles the reasons for Pawan being hurt. Excerpts from the letter.

Pawan thanks TFI for the return gift

At a time when Pawan’s film Hari Hara Veera Mallu is about to release (June 12), the subject of theatres shutting down has cropped up. This triggered a conspiracy theory among the fans and industry that his film is being targeted. He slammed the film industry heads for not meeting the Chief Minister on a courtesy visit. “It’s been one year since the NDA government has come into power in Andhra Pradesh but none of the bodies from the film industry have met him,” he alleges.

Pawan Kalyan upset, slams Telugu film industry

Reminding how the previous government in the state insulted celebrities and the Telugu film industry, Pawan expressed thanks for the return gift the film industry has given him for supporting them. Producers like Dil Raju, Allu Aravind, Suresh Babu, Supriya, China Babu, Naveen Yerneni, Ashwini Dutt and others met Pawan in the past. But he suggested everyone come together working collaboratively for the development of the film industry. Adding, “Many producers came personally to meet the cinematography minister requesting for a hike in ticket prices for their films and obtained government’s favour. But despite telling them repetitively, they never came together collectively with a plan to develop the film industry.”

Most of the theatres leased out

In his statement, Pawan mentioned that he recently learnt that most of the film theatres are leased out to third parties, run by lessors and not by the theatre owners’ exhibitors. He also inquired about the revenues of the exhibitors and the taxes paid to the government. The deputy Chief minister also checked with the officials on the multiplex’s revenue model, facilities, and complaints of people. He asked them to monitor the exorbitant prices of food and beverages in theatres and non-availability of water in many multiplexes.

Comprehensive film development policy

Pawan reinforced that while the government of Andhra Pradesh is concerned about Telugu cinema, celebs and industry bodies are paying a deaf ear.  A livid Pawan decided to soon bring out a comprehensive film development policy that’ll give the industry its due recognition.  Pawan added that he will not encourage one-on-one meetings with film industry individuals henceforth and prefer to talk to the respective departments regarding any issues. He said, “I will soon discuss the matter with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu garu and bring out guidelines that’ll help the overall development of the film industry.”

Pawan Kalyan’s letter is currently creating a stir in the film industry.
